BMW X5

The luxury BMW SUV car

A luxury SUV introduced to the world in 1999 as its first generation known as the E53, was the first SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) and in Britain, it was known as the 4x4. It was the first car to feature an All-Wheel Drive system and BMW named it X-Drive. The second generation known as the E70 was launched in 2006, and then the first M car in 2009. BMW described the car as an SAV (Sport Activity Vehicle) instead of the SUV. X5 cars are made in America and Mexico, and in 2009 some assembly took place in Russia In 2003, BMW launched its younger brother, the BMW X3.

BMW X5 generations

The first generation was called the E53, it was produced from 2000 to September 2006. This generation was produced in the period when BMW owned the Landrover company, and all systems between the two cars, including navigation, radio, and others, which were shared between the two vehicles. This generation came with different engines; 3.0L 6-cylinder 225 HP engine, 4.4L 4-cylinder 286 HP engine (315 HP for vehicles between 2004 and 2006), 4.6L 8-cylinder 347 HP engine, 4.8L 8-cylinder 355 HP engine, and 3.0L 6-cylinder 218 HP diesel-powered engine. A vehicle at this size needed a more powerful engine than the one installed in the BMW M5 in some models.

The second generation (E70) was replaced in November 2006, and it contained many new BMW systems such as the third-row seat and the iDrive system as a standard option in all its classes. In 2008 BMW changed the designations of the X5 categories to become like all standard BMW cars, Example: X5 3.0d has become called X5 xDrive35d. In 2009 at the New York exhibition BMW presented the X5 M to the press in April, and it started selling in September. The X5 M has an 8-cylinder 555hp engine and M Dynamic Performance Control technology for stunning maneuvers.

The car was updated in 2011 to be more beautiful and stronger, as the 8-cylinder engines were replaced by a turbocharged engine, to be available with different engines at 3.0L V6 272 HP engine at a minimum, to a 4.4L V8 555 HP twin-turbocharged engine. As for the third generation, it had the same wheelbase and chassis of its predecessor with three different engines; the (xDrive50i) V8 450 HP engine. Also, a diesel-powered V6 in-line single turbo engine that produces 258 HP (xDrive30d), and a 381 HP engine with three turbos (M50d M Performance). As of December 2013, new engine options were introduced like the xDrive40d, xDrive35i, and two four-cylinder engines xDrive25d and sDrive25d (with two-wheel transmission). BMW also added introduced the PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) to the X5 models in recent years.

The fourth-generation known as G05 X5, which is based on the Cluster Architectural platform (CLAR) that is also shared with other BMW models like the BMW X7, or the BMW i8.
