Large antique wood Zanzibar chest with extensive brass studwork

Large antique wood Zanzibar chest, believed to be from 19th century, with extensive decorative brass studwork forming intricate designs on the lid and front of the chest. The chest has its original lock, which got detached, but can be easily fixed back.

History ~

Such chests were often used to transport dowries and export spices or store coins. East Africa.

Condition ~

Consistent with age and normal use.
